AI for Australian Aged Care — pre-clinical, privacy-first
MACS adds AI where it belongs — intake, admission, document handling. We stay out of clinical decisions. Built on Azure OpenAI in Australian datacentres. Designed to slot in without disturbing your clinical system (AlayaCare, Leecare, eCase, Person Centred).

Aged care is a domain where automated decision-making creates real risk — clinical, regulatory, and reputational. MACS-AI is built around three constraints:
- Pre-clinical scope. MACS-AI handles enquiry, admission, and document workflows. It does not generate care plans, propose medication changes, or make clinical assessments.
- Human-in-the-loop by default. Every AI output is a suggestion your staff review and approve. No auto-send, no auto-decide.
- Audit trail. Every AI interaction is logged — the prompt, the response, the staff member who actioned it. Defensible under Aged Care Act 2025 audit.
Three AI features shipping today
The MACS-AI trio — each one tested with real aged-care providers, each one focused on a workflow where AI assists without taking over.
AI Voice Agent
An Australian-voice phone agent that answers enquiry calls after hours, captures the caller's situation, and lodges a structured enquiry in MACS for staff to follow up. Production voice is an Australian neural voice (William) on Azure AI Speech, not a US-style synthetic voice.
Best for: providers losing enquiries to voicemail after-hours, or whose intake team can't keep up with peak-call periods.
Smart Enquiry Form
A web enquiry form that uses AI to interpret free-text descriptions of a resident's or client's situation, suggest the right care pathway, and pre-populate the intake record. Family members can describe the situation in their own words instead of filling 20 fields.
Best for: providers where the public enquiry form drop-off rate is high, or where families struggle with intake terminology.
Document Ingestion
Upload a referral letter, hospital discharge summary, or aged-care assessment document. AI extracts the structured fields — demographics, conditions, services requested — into the right MACS record. Your staff review and approve. No more re-keying.
Best for: providers receiving a high volume of paper or PDF referrals where intake staff spend hours on data entry.
Where the AI runs
- Azure OpenAI Service — Microsoft's enterprise AI service. Different commercial terms from the public OpenAI API.
- Azure AI Speech — for voice synthesis (Australian neural voices) and transcription.
- Azure Communication Services — the call-handling layer for the AI Voice Agent. Calls terminate in Australia.
- Australian datacentres — Australia East (Sydney) by default. Your client and resident data does not leave Australia.
- Not used for training — Azure OpenAI commercial terms exclude your data from training Microsoft's or OpenAI's models.
Aged Care Act 2025 compatibility
Under the new Act, providers must be able to evidence consent, audit decisions, and demonstrate that automated processes have appropriate human oversight. MACS-AI is built around these requirements from day one:
- Every AI suggestion is logged with prompt, response, timestamp, and the staff member who approved or rejected it.
- Consent for AI processing is captured during intake and stored against the resident or client record.
- The AI Voice Agent identifies itself as a virtual assistant on every call, with the option to transfer to a human at any point.
- Document ingestion produces draft data for staff approval — the AI never writes directly to the official record.
